Emory Athletics To Celebrate DIII Week from April 4th-10th

Emory University will celebrate NCAA Division III Week, which begins Monday, April 4th with National Student-Athlete Day and continues until Sunday, April 10th. This week is an opportunity for the 450 member schools of NCAA DIII to recognize and promote the achievements of student-athletes on and off the field. Emory University is joining in the nation-wide celebration by highlighting the academic, athletic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular achievements of our own student-athletes.

More than 185,000 student-athletes make up Division III, the largest NCAA division both in number of participants and number of schools. Emory University's student-athletes thrive in the DIII community with approximately 400 student-athletes playing on 18 intercollegiate teams. Emory has a total of 19 Division III National Championship titles and 181 University Athletic Association Conference Championship titles. We have finished among the top 10 Division III programs in the Director's Cup in 14 of the last 15 years. The Director's Cup honors institutions maintaining a broad-based athletic program, achieving success in many men’s and women’s sports. In 2014-15, the Eagles placed eighth out of 323 schools that scored points. Emory currently holds the 5th place spot after winter sport 2015-16 standings. Thus far during the 2015-2016 school year, a total of 40 Emory athletes earned All-American acclaim, increasing our total to 881 since 1983-84. Emory scholar-athletes have distinguished themselves on the academic front with 164 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 98 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships to date. With 80 awarded since 2000, Emory has the second most post-grad scholarships during the stretch behind Stanford University.

Emory athletes in particular will be celebrating this week in lieu of their many accomplishments in UAA Conference Championships, Regional Championships, and even success on the highest level at the NCAA National Championships. The Eagles will be uniting this week from their various sports teams and academic backgrounds to share in events such as: Monday’s “Good Morning Eagles!” breakfast, an interactive sports trivia booth at Wonderful Wednesday in Asbury Circle, as well as the annual “Thank-a-thon” on Thursday to thank alumni and friends of the program for their support and contributions to the athletic program.

The true essence of Division III athletics is the full integration of student-athletes into the campus culture and to stand for the three D’s of the Division - to discover, develop, and dedicate. This week is dedicated to celebrating our student athletes and supporting them to, “follow your passion and develop your potential.”The following is the schedule of events taking place on campus during DIII Week as well as athletic events at home and on the road:
