The Emory University swimming and diving teams saw a total of 29 members recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their athletic and academic efforts during the 2018-19 season, including a NCAA-best 26 who were named as Scholar All-Americans.
The Eagles bested Stanford University and UAA rival University of Chicago with 26 First Team selections, one more than the Cardinal and Maroons. The women’s team led all Division III programs with 16 Scholar All-Americans while the men’s team checked in with 10 honorees. In addition, the men’s and women’s teams combined for three Scholar All-America Honorable Mentions.
The CSCAA Scholar All-America award is presented to all swimmers and divers that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections are awarded to competitors who met the same academic standards, while also achieving a 'B' time standard, but did not compete in their National Championship.
Earning Scholar All-America recognition for the women were: Hannah Baratz, Edie Bates, Lucy Daro, Allie Dixon, Julia Durmer, Gaige Elms, Lara Gemar, Clio Hancock, Maria Kyle, Hannah Lally, Caroline Olson, Bethany Seagraves, Meg Taylor, Maria Turcanu, Josie Uerling and Zoe Walker.
Ten men were chosen as Scholar All-Americans: Zachary Chen, Thomas Gordon, Jason Hamilton, Alex Kohlman, Trey Kolleck, Zach Lorson, Will O’Daffer, Sage Ono, Matthew Rogers and Tyler Russell.
Earning honorable mention acclaim was Anya Koné of the women’s team and Sean Byman and Calvin Furbee from the men’s squad.
In addition, both the Emory Men’s and Women’s programs were named as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams in late June after recording GPAs higher than 3.0 for the past academic school year. The women posted a collective 3.56 GPA while the men averaged a GPA of 3.48.
The Eagles are coming off a 2018-19 campaign where the women’s program captured its 10th consecutive NCAA Division III national crown and 12th overall while the men’s team finished as national runners-up for the second consecutive season and the sixth second place finish in team history.
