Dani Bland & Brett Henshey Capture UAA Outdoor Track & Field Awards

Senior Dani Bland and freshman Brett Henshey of the Emory University Track and Field teams were recognized by the University Athletic Association Wednesday afternoon with Bland earning Women’s Most Outstanding Performer honors in running events and Henshey taking home Men’s Rookie of the Year kudos.

Bland, the UAA’s Outdoor Most Outstanding Performer in 2018, became the second two-time UAA Outdoor MOP in program history as she helped the Eagles to a third place finish at the conference meet this past weekend in Atlanta. Bland recorded individual titles in the 100m and 200m Dashes and was a member of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays that earned gold at the meet. Her four event championships pushed her career total to 14, indoor and outdoor combined.

On the men’s side, Henshey became the first Eagle since Daniel Pietsch in 2015 to be named the UAA Men’s Outdoor Rookie of the Year and is just the second all-time. In the high jump, Henshey claimed one of the two event titles for the men’s team at the meet, winning the event at 2.10m, the lone performer in the field to clear 2.00m. His jump set new Emory and UAA records and was the third highest jump recorded so far in Division III during the outdoor campaign.

The Eagles are off this weekend before traveling to North Central College on May 9th and 10th.
