The Eagles Weekly Preview for October 14th – 21st. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming events for Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Men’s Golf

The top-ranked men’s golf team looks to repeat as the Golfweek Division III Invitational champions as the tournament concludes on Monday and Tuesday. The three-day tournament kicked off on Sunday in Sandestin, FL and will cover 54 holes over the length of invitational.

Volleyball

The top-ranked volleyball team, winners of 10 consecutive matches, takes on a pair of non-conference opponents in Covenant (6-12) and Hendrix (14-3) during the week before heading to Cleveland, OH on Sunday to face Case Western Reserve (6-13) and No.-3 ranked Chicago (18-1) in the final UAA Round Robin of the regular season.

Women’s Tennis

Freshman Alexa Goetz, sophomors Christina Watson, Emma Cartledge and junior Defne Olcay represent the women’s tennis team this week at the ITA Cup in Rome, GA. Goetz and Cartledge will be two of 16 singles players vying for the Division III crown and in doubles Goetz/Watson and Olcay/Cartledge will compete allongside 14 other teams for the doubles crown. The Division III singles and doubles championships will advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, CA.

Men’s Tennis

Sophomores Antonio Mora, Andrew Esses and junior Will Wanner will join their women’s tennis counterparts this week in Rome as the men’s duo also is set to compete at the ITA Cup. Mora and Esses will be vying the singles crown after claiming the ITA South regional title in September and will later team with Wanner in the doubles tournament. The Division III singles and doubles championships will advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, CA.

Men’s Soccer

The Eagles (7-4-1, 1-1 UAA), fresh off their first conference win in the closing minutes against WashU and winners of six of their last seven, travel north for a key UAA weekend against Case Western Reserve University (5-4-3, 0-1-1 UAA) and Carnegie Mellon University (4-6-1, 0-2 UAA). Emory has recorded shutouts in each of its past three victories including back-to-back clean sheets.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team (7-4, 0-2 UAA) looks for its first conference win of the season as the Eagles make the trip to Cleveland and Pittsburgh to battle No.-16 ranked Case Western Reserve (10-2, 0-2 UAA) and Carnegie Mellon (8-2-1, 2-0 UAA) in a pair of key conference showdowns.

Swimming & Diving

Following the intrasquad tune-up last week where the Gold team won 738-701 on the women’s side and the Blue team won 720-697 on the men’s side, the swimming and diving programs jump in the pool for the official start of the 2019-20 season on Saturday when the Eagles battle Division II powerhouse and reigning national champions in Queens University of Charlotte.

Cross Country

The Eagle cross country programs return to action this Saturday as they head north to Berry College for the Berry Invitational held at the Clara Bowl in Rome. The men’s squad is coming off a pair of top-10 performances at the JSU Foothills Invitational and Louisville Classic on October 5th while the women’s team placed 12th at the Louisville meet.
