Emory Athletics Weekly Preview - December 2nd - 10th

The Eagles Weekly Preview for December 2nd – 10th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming events for Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Women’s Basketball

The 5-1 women’s basketball team rounds out the semester with three games in eight days with two coming against local opponents. The Eagles first take on the Stormy Petrels, 6-1 and winners of four straight, Tuesday evening in Brookhaven before hosting the Hawks of Huntingdon College (0-4) in the team’s first game at the WoodPEC this season on Saturday. Emory then concludes the stretch of play at Agnes Scott (0-6) next Tuesday night. Through six games, the Eagles are scoring at just over a 70 point per game clip (70.5) and boasts four in scoring double figures, highlighted by sophomore Tori Huggins (11.7). Emory is coming off a 22-point win at Sewanee last Tuesday (Nov. 26), the team’s third victory by 20 or more points.

Men’s Basketball

Emory’s high-octane offense (93.1 PPG, 16th in Division III) will be on display twice this week as the unbeaten and No.-2 ranked Eagles (7-0) take on USA South foes LaGrange (1-3) and Piedmont (4-1) to wrap up play before the team breaks for the holidays. The Eagles posted team totals of 124 and 95 in a pair of wins at the Maryville Thanksgiving Classic with their mark of 124 in the team’s 12-point win over Pfeiffer on Saturday marking a new program high. Four Eagles are averaging double figures through seven contests with junior Matt Davet leading the charge at 20.0 PPG after recording a career-high 29 in the team’s 95-82 victory over Maryville Sunday afternoon.

Swimming & Diving

The swimming and diving programs close out the calendar year with the Denison and SCAD Invitationals later this week. The DU invite features the host Big Red, Kenyon, WashU, Wayne State, Eastern Michigan and Ohio State and opens with long course time trials on Wednesday. In addition to the Eagles, the SCAD meet looks to feature competing athletes from SCAD, Lynn, Point, South Georgia State College, Keiser, Berry, Life, Brenau, Union, Thomas and St. Andrew’s. The traditionally faster meets will see prelims at 10:00 AM and finals at 6:00 PM for the final three days at Denison while SCAD has timed finals at 6:00 PM Thursday evening followed by prelims at 9:00 AM on both Friday and Saturday and finals sessions at 5:00 PM (Fri.) and 4:00 PM (Sat.).

Track & Field

The Eagles track and field teams open the indoor season with the annual BSC Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern at the Crossplex this Friday. The one-day meet begins with the field events at 9:00 AM CST and concludes with the 4x400m relays at 6:15 PM CST.
