Emory Athletics Weekly Preview - September 9-15

The Eagles Weekly Preview for September 9th-15th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming events for Emory athletics for the coming week.

Volleyball

The No.-1 ranked volleyball team (6-0) looks to stay unbeaten as the Eagles travel to St. Louis, MO for the East to West Battle, hosted by WashU. Emory is slated to face a trio of tough competition including top-six foes in No.-3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (7-1) and No.-6 Juniata College (4-2).

Emory opens the tournament with a pair of Friday matches against CMS (1:15pm) and Juniata (5:45pm) followed by a Saturday matinee against Cal Lutheran (6-2) at 12:15pm.

Women’s Soccer

Following a tough road defeat to No.-4 ranked Christopher Newport on Saturday, the women’s soccer team returns home for two weekend matches against No.-14 ranked University of Lynchburg (3-1) and Mount Saint Joseph University (1-2-1).

Saturday marks a rematch of last year’s NCAA Second Round matchup while the meeting with MSJU is the first for the two programs since 2000.

Men’s Soccer

After defeating Pomona-Pitzer in the season opener, the men’s soccer team has scuffled of late against stiff competition, going 0-2-1 in its last three games and is coming off a double overtime tie Sunday night against Birmingham-Southern. But the Eagles look to rebound Friday afternoon in their first road contest of the season, opposing No.-14 ranked Washington & Lee University (3-1) in Lexington, VA.

Cross Country

The Eagles travel to Camp Jordan Friday night for the UTC Twilight Meet, hosted by UT-Chattanooga. The women’s 5K race is set to start at 6:30 PM followed by the men’s 7K at 7:00 PM.

The men’s team is coming off a first place showing at the JSU Strut’s Opener with junior Jack Whetstone placing first out of 159 runners to capture UAA Athlete of the Week honors. For the women, the Eagles took fourth out of 14 schools with Bella Racette leading the charge with a 14th place effort.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team kicks off its fall slate with the three-day Elon Fall Invitational in Elon, NC. The Eagles return nine from last year’s national semifinalist squad and will mix in three newcomers to the fold, headlined by reigning Division III singles national champion junior Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico.

Men’s Golf

The No.-2 ranked men’s golf team makes its fall debut as the Eagles play host to the 54-hole Division III National Fall Preview at the PGA National Resort-Squire Course in West Palm Beach, FL.

Head Coach John Sjoberg’s group brings back nine from last year’s team including the trio of Matt Organisak, Eric Yiu and Logan Ryan which earned PING All-America recognition.

Women’s Golf

The Emory University women’s golf program makes its historic debut on the links this weekend with the Emory-hosted 54-hole Division III National Preview at the PGA National Resort-Squire Course in West Palm Beach, FL.

The Katie Futcher-led Eagles enter the season receiving votes in the WGCA Coaches Preseason Poll.
