Track & Field Off to Strong Start at Berry Invite; Saridakis Breaks School Record in Pole Vault

The Emory University Track and Field teams opened the Berry Field Day Invitational on Friday night with strong performances across the slate of events. The Eagles recorded a combined five event wins and set one school record as both the men and women sit in first after one day of competition.

Sophomore Isabel Saridakis was one of three women to win their respective events on the evening, breaking the school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.65m, eclipsing the previous record of 3.55m set by Katie Anding at the 2006 UAA Championships.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach and junior Dilys Osei added event wins for the Emory women with Stravach finishing first in the 1500m Run in a time of 4:37.73 and Osei winning the 400m Hurdles with a new personal best mark of 1:02.92.

The Eagles turned in an additional three second place finishes on the night with junior Paris Wagner in the hammer throw (42.82m), sophomore Nyla Lindo in the triple jump (11.03m) and freshman Andi Breitowich in the pole vault (3.33m).

On the men’s side, seniors Benjamin Rogin and Max Brown highlighted the team as they registered event wins. Rogin placed first in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 55.16 with Brown taking the top spot in the 1500m Run at 3:55.13. Both times represented new personal bests for the duo.

Junior Zachary Lembersky posted a second place effort in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.13m while senior Charlie Hu tied for fourth in the triple jump at 13.48m. Sophomore Samuel Branson and freshman Matthew Dillon also recorded top-three finishes for the Emory men with Branson finishing third in the 1500m Run at 4:00.93 and Dillon taking third in the 5000m Run with a time of 15:21.96.
