Emory Swimming & Diving Close Out Calendar Year with Denison and SCAD Invites

The Emory University Swimming and Diving teams close out the calendar year with a pair of three-day, championship-style meets that will be held at Denison University and SCAD-Savannah from Thursday, November 29th to Saturday, December 1st.

Emory will share the pool with the likes of Denison, Washington-St. Louis, Ohio State, Wayne State, Thomas More and Eastern Michigan at the Denison Invitational while the SCAD Invite features SCAD, Wingate, Union (KY), Berry, Brenau, Emmanuel, Keiser, LaGrange, Life, Point, Rollins, South Georgia State and Thomas.

Both meets will feature preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening: 10:00 AM (prelims) and 6:30 PM (finals) each day at Denison with timed finals beginning at 6:00 PM on Thursday at SCAD followed by prelims (9:00 AM) and finals (5:00 PM) on Friday and prelims (9:00 AM) and finals (4:00 PM) on Saturday. The Eagles are off to a solid start for the 2018-19 season with wins over Birmingham-Southern, first place efforts in their home invitational and boast several times that rank within the top-10 nationally entering the weekend.

For the women, senior Julia Durmer, sophomore Lucy Daro and freshman Clio Hancock headline the Emory women among the Division III ranks with Hancock owning the fourth (4:30:05) and fifth (2:07.23) fastest times in the 400 IM and 200 Fly, respectively, while Durmer checks in fourth in the 1650 Free (17:29.80) and seventh in the 400 IM (4:33.24) and Daro is eighth in the 200 Free (1:53.70). The Eagles also possess two top relay times with the 200 Free Relay of Daro, seniors Fiona Muir, Meg Taylor and sophomore Christy Taylor seventh at 1:37.09 and the 400 Medley Relay of Daro, Muir, sophomore Gaige Elms and freshman Edie Bates eighth at 3:54.58.

On the men’s side, senior Trey Kolleck is third in the 50 Free (20.53) and fourth in the 100 Free (45.25) after a strong start to the year while sophomore Sven Mesihovic (5th, 4:03.77) and freshman Zach Lorson (7th, 4:04.68) represent the Eagles on the 400 IM national list. In addition, the Emory men own four relay marks inside the top-10 with the 200 Free Relay of Kolleck, seniors Zachary Chen, Matt Rogers and junior Sage Ono third at 1:22.76; the 400 Free Relay of Kolleck, Chen, Ono and freshman Will O’Daffer fifth at 3:04.69; and the group of Kolleck, Ono and freshmen Tyler Russell and Hwa Min Sim fourth at 3:23.43 in the 400 Medley Relay and seventh in the 200 Medley Relay at 1:32.48.
