Oliver Smith, Fiona Muir Named UAA Swimmers of the Week

Senior Oliver Smith and junior Fiona Muir were named the University Athletic Association’s Swimmers of the Week for their performances at the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships this past weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Smith was named the CSCAA DIII Men's Swimmer of the Year after helping the Eagles to a national runner-up finish. Smith won individual titles in the 50 and 100 Freestyles, set NCAA DIII records in the prelims of both events and was a member of all four championship winning relays. He was also Honorable Mention in the 100 Butterfly, finishing 12th overall. In addition, he became just the fourth male in Division III history to win three 50 Freestyles in a career and was the first in Division III history to ever swim under 43 seconds in the 100 Freestyle at 42.98.

Muir won a pair of individual titles and assisted on two relay championships as the Emory Women's Swimming and Diving program won its ninth consecutive and 11th overall team national championship. Muir captured the event title in both the 50 and 100 Freestyles, set the DIII record in the 50 prelims and was a member of the 400 and 800 Freestyles that both set NCAA DIII records. Muir added All-America honors in the 200 Freestyle (2nd) and 400 Medley Relay (2nd).

It is the fourth time Smith has earned the weekly honor this season and seventh time in his career and for Muir, this marks her second weekly award of the year and fifth of her career.
