Shivani Beall & Jun Tsuru Tabbed to CoSIDA Soccer Academic All-District Teams

Emory University junior soccer players Shivani Beall and Jun Tsuru were named to their respective women’s and men’s College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams on Thursday afternoon.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Beall, an Atlanta, GA native, has turned in an outstanding campaign for the Eagles, playing in all 18 games including 17 in a starting role. Beall has recorded career-highs in both goals and points with her 22 points marking the most by an Emory women’s soccer player since the 2007 season. A season highlight for the junior came on October 17th in the team’s 4-0 win at home against Covenant where she set a career-best with three goals, earning the first Eagle women’s soccer hat trick in nearly five seasons. Beall owns a 3.94 grade-point average while majoring in Biology.

Tsuru, a Roswell, GA native, completed his junior season with career-highs across the board helping the Emory men to a 9-7-2 overall record. Tsuru netted his 17 points (5G, 7A) during a nine-game streak to open the season, tied for the second longest streak in program history. He set a single game personal-best in back-to-back contests against Birmingham-Southern and Sewanee, registering a goal and an assist in each game. The third-year midfielder boasts a 3.60 GPA as Finance major.

Beall and Tsuru will both be placed on the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams. The Academic All-America teams for men’s and women's soccer will be announced on Tuesday, December 4th.
