Michael Huey, MD
Team Physician
Dr. Huey is the Executive Director of Emory University Student Health and Counseling Services and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.
Huey was Director of Student Health Services and Associate Team Physician at California State University, Bakersfield from 1991-1994. From 1994-2002, he was Director of Student Health Care Center and Associate Clinical Professor of Community Health and Family Practice at the University of Florida. While at Florida, he was also one of the Team Physicians for the Florida Gator Athletics Program.
Huey is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice with a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Huey graduated summa cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences. Huey earned his Medical Degree from UCLA School of Medicine, and completed his Family Practice Residency at Ventura County Medical Center (California).
John "X" Xerogeanes, MD
Chief of Sports Medicine
John Xerogeanes, M.D., or Dr. "X" as known by his staff and patients, is Chief of Sports Medicine at the Emory Orthopaedic and Spine Center. Also adding to his list of titles is Head Orthopaedist and Team Physician for Georgia Tech, Emory University and Agnes Scott College. Along with Dr. Xerogeanes' association with college level athletes, he also cares for many professional, high school and recreational athletes. His former team physician affiliations include: The University of Pittsburgh Intercollegiate Athletics, Denver Broncos, United States Ski Team, Pennsylvania State Boxing Commission and Woodland Hills High School (Pittsburgh, PA).
After earning his undergraduate degree in Bio Chemistry from the University of California Davis and his medical degree from Emory University, Dr. Xerogeanes went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He then moved to Vail, Colorado where he did a fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic specializing in Sports Medicine/Knee and Shoulder Surgery.
As a member of a number of professional societies and organizations, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthoopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Xerogeanes has contributed to many textbooks and has received numerous research awards. His research has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Journal of Trauma and Annals of Biomedical Engineering. In addition to his many publications, he has been a visiting lecturer at numerous institutions throughout various regions including North America South America, Asia and Africa. Lee Golusinski, MD
Team Physician
Golusinski earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry withBiological Specialization from Duke in 1985. He completed a residency in Family Practice at Duke University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. After residency, Dr. Golusinski did a 2-year fellowship in Sports Medicine at Duke. He moved to Atlanta in 1994 and was on the faculty at Emory until 2001 at which time he decided to go into private practice and open his own office; Intown Family Practice & Sports Medicine, PC. Golusinski is board certified in both Family Practice and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Golusinski has served as Team Physician for Emory University Varsity Athletics since 1995. Golusinski has served as an Associate Team Physician for the United States Soccer Federation, worked in the Olympic Village Polyclinic during the 1996 Olympics, served as a physician at first aid stations for two years at Turner Field, Home of the Atlanta Braves. Also, since 1995 he has been a competitive Masters Swimmer as well as a member of United States Masters Swimming.
Ken Mautner, MD
Team Physician
Dr. Mautner came to Emory in 2004, after completing his Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. While there, he served as Team Physician for Samford University in Birmingham, AL. He majored in biology and psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He took a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Emory University School of Medicine, before completing his Fellowship in Sports Medicine.
He was selected as Resident of the Year in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program in 2002-2003, and served as Chief Resident the same year.
Dr. Mautner is active in such professional organizations as the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the International Spinal Injection Society.
Dr. Mautner enjoys seeing a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries and has a special interest in sports related spine injuries. He currently serves as head team physician for Agnes Scott College and a team physician for Emory University Athletics.
Dr. Kyle Hammond
Team Physician
Dr. Kyle Hammond spent his childhood in Johns Creek, GA and graduated from Chattahoochee High School before receiving his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Georgia. After graduating from UGA, he went on to complete his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Hammond completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Internship and Residency at Emory University. During his residency, he also worked as a Resident Team Physician for Georgia Tech, Emory, and Oglethorpe University Athletics. After finishing his residency, Dr. Hammond completed the Sports Medicine, Shoulder Surgery, and Concussion Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While at UPMC, he was also Associate Head Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Duquesne University Football team and the University of Pittsburgh Men’s Basketball team, and a Team Physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, the University of Pittsburgh athletics, Robert Morris College athletics, and the Pittsburgh Ballet. After his time in Pittsburgh, he began working alongside Dr. Brian Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan to learn his techniques in the field of hip arthroscopy.
Dr. Hammond is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery. He has also been an author in numerous journal articles ranging from Orthopaedic Surgery to Sports Medicine.
Dr. Oluseun Olufade, MD
Team Physician
Dr. Oluseun Olufade went to Medical School at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/UMDNJ in New Jersey. After receiving his medical degree he completed an internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania followed by his residency at Temple University. He completed fellowship training in both Interventional Pain Medicine and Primary Care Sports Medicine while at Temple University and at Crozer Keystone Health System in Pennsylvania. During his fellowship training, he was a team physician for Philadelphia Union, a major league soccer (MLS) team, Widener University Football team, and Interboro High School Football team.
Dr. Olufade is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine and Interventional Pain Medicine. He also has held many leadership roles including Chief Resident, Vice-President of Resident Physician Council of AAPM&R, President of his medical school class and Editor of the PM&R Newsletter. He has authored multiple book chapters and presented at national conferences. He is a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and American Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Olufade joined the Emory Sports Medicine Staff in 2013.
Dr. Russell Gore, MD

Director, Complex Concussion Clinic
Dr. Gore is the medical director of vestibular neurology and joined the medical staff of Shepherd Center in December 2015. As director of vestibular neurology at Shepherd Center, Dr. Gore cares for patients who have dizziness and balance challenges resulting from spinal cord or brain injury. Dr. Gore sees patients on an outpatient basis in Shepherd Center's Multi-Specialty Clinic and also does inpatient consultations.
In addition, Dr. Gore is the medical director of Shepherd Center's SHARE Military Initiative and the director of the hospital's Complex Concussion Clinic.
Dr. Gore received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Vanderbilt University, after which he earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. After an internship at Emory, Dr. Gore served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force for eight years.
Dr. Gore is an adjunct associate professor at the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University, as well as a widely published researcher.
