John Dunham   MS, ATC, CES,  Head Athletics Trainer

 

John Dunham was named assistant athletics trainer at Emory University in October of 2007. His appointment marks his second stint at the university. Dunham is a guest lecturer in the Emory University Physical Therapy Program at Georgia State University in the Graduate Sport Medicine Program. In addition, Dunham works part time for the Georgia Force in the Arena Football League.

After his first stay at Emory (2001-05), Dunham served as the Director of Sports Medicine at Multi Sport Orthotics. At Multi Sport Orthotics, Dunham was responsible for implementation and management of national sports medicine program as well as patient care and fabrication of orthotic devices.

Dunham served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Emory University from 2001 through 2005.
In conjunction with serving as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Emory, Dunham was an instructor in the Health, Physical Education, and Dance Department.

A Native of Memphis, Dunham earned his Masters of Science in Sports Administration from Eastern Kentucky University (Richmond) in 1999. While at EKU Dunham served as a Graduate Assistant in the Athletic and Recreation Department. Dunham received his Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Wellness Promotion from Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) in 1998. While earning his BS Dunham served as a student Athletic Trainer for 4 years.

Dunham is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed in the state of Georgia.

John, his wife Lulie and their daughter Maggie and son Walker currently reside in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Karli Dill MA, ATC, CES

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Karli Dill was named Assistant Athletic Trainer at Emory in August of 2014.

Dill joined the staff after a two-year stint as an athletic trainer at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where she provided coverage for an area high school.  

Karli earned an MA in exercise and sports science from The University of North Carolina in 2012.  As a graduate assistant, she worked with the women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse programs and worked with a variety of camps as well.

Originally from Hollansburg, Ohio, she attended Wright State University where she obtained a BS in athletic training in 2010. 

She is graston technique certified and certified by NASM as a Corrective Exercise Specialist.

Karli is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of GA.

 

 

 

 


 


Holli Dawson, MS, ATC 

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Holli Dawson was named Athletic Trainer at Emory in June of 2017. She works with the women’s soccer and women’s cross country and track & field teams.

Dawson joins the Eagles' staff after spending three years (2014-15 through 2016-17) as assistant athletic trainer at Limestone College (SC).  During her stint at Limestone, she was responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for the baseball, golf, women's basketball and men's lacrosse teams. 

Prior to Limestone, Holli worked as an athletic trainer at the Mississippi Sports Medicine Orthopedic Clinic (2012-14) and did an internship at NCAA Division I member Gardner-Webb University. 

A native of Beaufort, South Carolina, Dawson completed her undergraduate degree at Limestone in 2012, earning a B.S. in Athletic Training.  While at Limestone, she was a four-year member of the women’s volleyball program where she was a three-time co-captain and team MVP. Holli obtained her M.S. in Exercise Science from Mississippi College in 2014. 

She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association and First Aid Certified in CPR/AED.

Jake Forker

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Jake Forker joined the Emory Athletics Department as an athletic trainer in June of 2018.

Jake came to Atlanta after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer at Alief Taylor High School in Houston, Texas, a position he held since 2011.  At Alief Taylor, he coordinated all athletic training services for 21 sports, 40 teams and over 800 student athletes. From 2008 to 2011, Jake was the Head Athletic Trainer at Menomonee Falls High School in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. There he led the day-to-day athletic training program operations and services for 27 sports and over 500 student athletes.

Jake completed a summer internship with the Houston Texans in 2002 and 2003 and a season-long internship with the Washington Redskins during the 2007-2008 NFL season.

Forker received his Masters of Education in Physical Education emphasis in Sport Administration from the University of Houston in 2007. At Houston he was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer  with Football and Baseball. Jake received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 2004 where he worked with Men’s Basketball, Football, Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, and Men’s Tennis.

Dan Meyer

Athletic Trainer

Dan Meyer joined the Emory Athletic Training Staff in March of 2021.

Dan came to Atlanta after working for the athletic training staff at UW-Whitewater since 2017.  While with the Warhawks, he worked with numerous sports including men's soccer, wrestling, baseball and softball while assistant with football.  Prior to UW-Whitewater, Meyer completed a one-year internship at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, working with the women’s volleyball and softball teams. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the spring of 2016 with a bachelor’s in athletic training.

Dan obtained Master of Science degree in Education Professional with an emphasis in Athletic Administration. Meyer is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Mason Briles,  MS, LAT, ATC

Athletic Trainer

Mason Briles joins the Emory athletic training staff in January 2022 after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer previously at Tucker High School. Mason has previously worked within elite athletics including Team USA Marathon Olympic Trials, Iron Man Triathlons, the NBA Academy, Division I Men’s Football and Women’s Basketball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Division III athletics at Emory University.

Mason also has several years of experience within the secondary school setting working with state champion athletic programs at McCallie Boy’s School and Decatur High School. In addition to his clinical work, Mason has published and presented research on a variety of topics such as biomechanical data collection, traumatic orthopedic injury, infectious disease transfer (epidemiology), and exercise-induced heat transfer. 

Mason is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he obtained his Master of Science in athletic training, and Auburn University’s School of Kinesiology, where he completed concurrent bachelor’s degrees in exercise science and physical activity and health: fitness, conditioning, and performance. 

 


Chip Hewgley, MPT

Physical Therapist

Hewgley has been a staff physical therapist at Emory Sports Medicine since 2002.  A native of Oak Ridge, TN. Hewgley earned his Master's of Physical Therapy from The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (St. Augustine, FL) in 2000.  Hewgley received his Bachelor's of Science in Sports Performance from Berry College (Rome, GA) in 1996.  While at Berry, Hewgley was a member of the Varsity Baseball Team.

Before coming to Emory Sports Medicine, Hewgley spent two years with the Atlanta Braves as the organization's physical therapist. Hewgley is currently working towards a specialty certification in Sports Physical Therapy as well as a Manual Therapy certification.  Hewgley's special interests include working with throwing athletes with shoulder and elbow injuries. Hewgley is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association - Sports Section and is licensed in the State of Georgia.

Chip, his wife Veronica, their daughter Hannah, and their dogs Paddy and Tasha currently reside in Woodstock, GA.  Hewgley enjoys running, lifting weights, and fishing.
