Four Eagles Secure UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

Four more Emory University student-athletes were honored as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Emory Volleyball saw two chosen for weekly honors with sophomore Kaya Monrose picking up her first career honor while junior Deborah Hong earned her fourth award of the season following a milestone weekend. In addition to Monrose, sophomore Sophia Garcia from women's soccer and sophomore Josh Qian from men's golf were first-time honorees.

Monrose had one of the best days of her young career on Saturday in the Eagles' tri-match sweep of Averett and No. 22 Mary Washington. She totaled 26 kills on the day, 13 in each game to tie the second-best total of her career. She also led the team with a .476 hitting percentage in game one.

In the Saturday sweep, Hong also put forth a career-defining performance. She posted 24 digs against Averett, the third best of her career, to reach 1,000 career digs before she turned in a career-high with 32 digs as the Eagles downed UMW in five sets.

Garcia made 12 saves over two games as women's soccer went 1-0-1 against Maryville and Chicago. The second-year keeper made six stops on Tuesday against the Scots to record her sixth shutout before making six more saves, including one on a PK in the 81st minute, as Emory tied the Maroons in UAA action.

Qian led the Eagles' B and C units as the men's golf team started the week in Rome, Georgia at the Chick-fil-A Invitational. Qian posted a two-round score of 140 (-4), and was near perfect on the second day, shooting a six-under 66 and racking up seven birdies to help lead the Eagles' B team to a fourth place finish.
