2017 Emory Baseball Athletes of the Week

  • Luke Emmett
    April 23, 2017
    Senior Luke Emmett shined on senior day for the Eagles, tossing 6.2 superb innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts in Emory's 9-1 win over NYU. Emmett took a shutout into the seventh inning, finishing the day with one unearned run allowed on four hits and four walks to record his fifth win of the season.
  • Brian Hernandez
    April 23, 2017
    Senior Brian Hernandez drove in 10 of the 35 Emory runs over the weekend as the Eagles closed out the regular season with a 3-1 record against NYU. Hernandez had at least one hit and one RBI in all four games, finishing the weekend 7-for-16 (.438) and added two doubles and a HR. In the finale, Hernandez had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a HR and a career-best five RBI in Emory's come-from-behind win over the Violets.
  • Richard Brereton

    Freshman Richard Brereton made his first collegiate start, working five innings in Tuesday's 19-3 win over Oglethorpe University. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Brereton retired 14 of the next 16 batters he faced as he earned his third win of the season. Brereton also helped his caused at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Nick Chambers
    April 16, 2017
    Junior Nick Chambers collected three hits including two doubles and drove in a career-high five runs as the Eagles dominated Oglethorpe University 19-3 on Tuesday night. Chambers also came across to score three runs, tying for the game-high.
  • Billy Dimlow

    Sophomore Billy Dimlow spun a seven-inning complete game shutout in Emory's 3-0 victory over Brandeis in game two of the weekend series. Dimlow allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter. He racked up 10 strikeouts en route to collecting his sixth win of the season, the fourth time this season he struck out at least 10 batters. With the outing, Dimlow lowered his season ERA to 0.86.

    April 10, 2017
    Senior Jeff Ronpirin went 6-for-12 at the plate with four extra base hits to help Emory to a series sweep over Brandeis. Ronpirin collected two doubles and two triples and tied for the team lead with four runs batted in. He added a pair of walks and stole a base for the Eagles.

    Senior Jackson Weeg pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout as Emory blanked Brandeis 3-0 in the series opener. Weeg allowed just three hits, all singles, and did not walk a batter. He finished the outing with 11 strikeouts, his second consecutive double-digit strikeout performance and third of the season.

    Sophomore Billy Dimlow tossed eight shutout innings to earn his fifth win of the season as the Eagles blanked Case Western Reserve 4-0 on Friday. Dimlow gave up just six hits on the afternoon while striking out at least eight batters for the fifth time in 2017. He did not walk a batter in the outing.

    Sophomore David Draper went 7-for-17 with two doubles, one HR and five RBIs this past week for the Eagles including a 6-for-8 performance in a doubleheader sweep over Case Western Reserve Friday afternoon. Draper collected three hits in both games Friday afternoon including hitting his first career home run, a grand slam, to seal the first game for the Eagles 11-1.

    Senior Jackson Weeg spun seven shutout innings against No.-4 Birmingham-Southern Wednesday night as Emory won the top-5 matchup, 4-1. Weeg was dominant on the evening, allowing just three runners to get into scoring position, holding BSC to just three hits and one free pass while striking out seven batters to record his third win of the season.

    Sophomore Billy Dimlow returned to form Saturday afternoon, shutting down the Piedmont offense across seven scoreless innings to record his third win of the season. He allowed six hits and three walks while racking up 11 strikeouts, his third double-digit strikeout outing through his first five starts of the season.

    Senior Brian Hernandez went 7-for-16 (.438) in four games this past week as Emory went 3-1 against Oglethorpe and Piedmont. Hernandez recorded a hit and run scored in all four contests while driving in a run in three of the four games. He went 4-for-4 with two RBI and stolen base, falling a triple short of the cycle in the Eagles' 5-0 win over Piedmont on Saturday.

    Senior Kyle Monk went 1-0 with one save in two appearances out of the bullpen this week for the Eagles. Monk tossed two scoreless innings with 3 Ks for third save of the year on Tuesday against Berry. On Sunday at Millsaps, Monk threw the final 4.1 innings of the contest to record his team-high fourth win of the year, retiring the final seven batters he faced as Emory defeated the Majors 7-6.

    Senior Jeff Ronpirin went 4-for-12 with a double and a team-high four RBI as Emory went 2-1 against Berry and Millsaps this past week. Ronpirin drove in a pair of runs in Emory's 6-5 win at Berry on Tuesday and followed with 2-for-4 with two RBI effort in the Eagles' 7-6 victory at Millsaps on Sunday.

    Sophomore Billy Dimlow shined on the mound again Saturday afternoon, striking out 10 Huntingdon batters across eight innings to record his second win of the year. He allowed one unearned run on seven hits and a walk. It was the second time in three starts this year, the Sammamish, WA native had double-digit strikeouts in an outing.

    Senior Jeff Ronpirin batted .385 and drove in a team-high eight runs in three games against Huntingdon to help Emory to their second best start in school history (10-0). On Sunday, Ronpirin recorded a career-high four RBI as the Eagles bested the Hawks 9-6 to complete the sweep.

    Senior Jackson Weeg was masterful on Saturday afternoon, setting the Emory University Baseball single-game school record with 18 strikeouts. He recorded at least two strikeouts in each of his eight innings on the mound including striking out the side in both the fifth and eighth innings. In eight innings of work, he allowed three runs (2 ER) on six hits and walked just one to collect his first victory of the year.

    Senior Chris Young batted a team-high .400 and led Emory starters with a .500 slugging percentage as the Eagles went 4-0 this week. He tied for the team lead with three runs scored and added a .455 on-base percentage. Behind the plate, Young had a perfect fielding percentage in the four contests and caught Jackson Weeg's school record 18-strikeout performance on Saturday afternoon.

    Sophomore Billy Dimlow was lights out on the mound in his season debut for the Eagles on Sunday, tossing 7.0 shutout innings as Emory took game two versus Sewanee 3-0. Dimlow did not allow a base runner until two outs in the fourth inning, retiring the first 11 Tiger batters, and finished the outing with only two hits allowed. He racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts while not issuing a free pass.

    Senior Wilson Morgan batted .385 (5-for-13) with three RBI as Emory swept Sewanee University over the weekend. Morgan drove in a run in each of the three contests including a walk-off double in the opener to lift the Eagles to the 6-5 victory.
