Terry Beats Berry! - Sophomore Delivers Pinch-Hit Walkoff HR as Emory Downs Vikings, 4-3

Sophomore Eric Terry issued a pinch-hit two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Emory University Baseball team to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Berry College Thursday afternoon at Chappell Park. With the walk off win, the Eagles stayed perfect on the year at 4-0 while the Vikings slipped to 2-3.

Terry was called upon to pinch hit for classmate Jackson Grayson with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 3-2. After fouling the first pitch off, Terry cracked one to deep right field which carried over the fence, giving the Eagles the win.

Senior Philip Maldari led off the ninth inning with a single to right center before giving way to pinch-runner sophomore NJ Kim. Kim advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior Chris Young but remained there as sophomore Thomas Baumgartner flied out to center for the second out in the inning. Head Coach Mike Twardoski called Terry's name in the big spot and the sophomore delivered with Emory's second walk off winner of the team's first four contests.

Senior Kyle Monk got credit for his second win of the year but gave up a key two-run triple to Berry in the top of the seventh. Monk tossed 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits. He struck out one and issued one free pass.

Maldari went six strong innings in his collegiate debut on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits. The senior gave up hits to three of the first four batters he face before settling down to put up zeroes in his final 5.2 innings of work. He added two hits at the plate, going 2-for-4 to lead the Eagles.

Emory will look to keep the momentum rolling as Washington and Lee travels to Atlanta for a three-game series this weekend. First pitch in game one is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon at Chappell Park.
