No.-1 Emory Baseball Topples Covenant, 7-3, to Open Weekend Series

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Baseball team took game one of the three-game weekend series from Covenant College by a score of 7-3 on Friday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA.

Sophomore Billy Dimlow worked into the eighth inning, allowing three runs (2 ER) on six hits and two walks to record his fourth win of the season. Senior Kyle Monk tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to collect his fifth save of the season.

Junior Bubby Terp went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while the senior trio of Wilson Morgan, Jeff Ronpirin and Brian Hernandez each collected two hits and drove in a run to lead the Emory offense.

Terp opened the scoring in the home half of the first as he doubled down the right field line to score Morgan and Hernandez.

With two outs in the fourth inning, the Scots broke up Dimlow's no-hit bid, stringing together three consecutive hits including back-to-back doubles down the right field line to tie the game at 2-2.

The Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain a two-run edge. Ronpirin and Morgan both came around to score an errant throw by Covenant's Matt Reitz to the plate as he tried to throw out Ronpirin following a soft chopper back to the mound off the bat of Terp.

With the score 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Hernandez singled through the left side to score Ronpirin who led off the inning with a walk before stealing second.

The Eagles added two more runs in the eighth thanks to a Morgan RBI double into the right field corner followed by a single by Ronpirin to bring around Morgan.

Emory and Covenant wrap up their three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader in Lookout Mountain, GA. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM.
