The Emory University Baseball team continues its' nine-game road trip as the Eagles venture north to Waltham, MA to face Brandeis University for a four-game series in University Athletic Association action. UAA Update
Washington leads the UAA standings with a 4-0 record followed by Case Western Reserve at 6-2. Emory sits in third place at 2-6 with Brandeis trailing in fourth at 0-4. New York University plays in its first conference games this weekend as they host CWRU for a four-game series beginning on Friday.
#24/RV Emory University Eagles (19-11)
The Eagles will try and snap their six-game losing streak as play gets underway this weekend in Waltham. During the skid, the Eagles have dropped to 19-11 overall with a 5-8 record away from Chappell Park.
Emory, as a team, ranks 18th in the country with 290 hits with four players with 30 or more. Seniors Brian Hernandez and Jeff Ronpirin lead the team 34 base hits each with juniors Bubby Terp and Nick Chambers both collecting 30 hits apiece. Ronpirin tops the club with 30 runs driven in and eight stolen bases while hitting at a .312 clip. Hernandez carries a team-best .333 average with three doubles, one triple, one home run and 19 RBIs.
The Eagles currently sit 19th in Division III with an 8.8 strikeout-per-nine ratio with the trio of sophomore Billy Dimlow and seniors Jackson Weeg and Kyle Monk ranking in the top-25 in strikeouts. Dimlow (64) and Weeg (62) rank sixth and eighth, respectively, with Monk positioned 25th on the leaderboard. All three lead the UAA in that category.
Dimlow remains among the nation's leaders in earned-run average as his 0.97 mark places him 29th overall and third among pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched. Weeg struck out 10 batters his last time out against Washington University on Saturday, moving himself into second place on the Emory all-time list with 273, now just 31 shy of tying Mike Garvis' program record. It was the fifth double-digit strikeout performance by an Eagle this season and the second for Weeg. Monk racked up seven Ks in his second start of the year on Sunday, which tied his career-high. Monk has now punched out 49 batters in 2017, marking a new single-season career best.
Brandeis University (1-9)
With no help from Mother Nature so far in 2017, the Judges have managed to play just 10 contests, all away from home. Brandeis is hitting under the Mendoza line as a unit, coming into play with a team batting average of .188. Senior Ryan Tettemer owns a team-leading .273 average with six RBIs and one stolen base. Freshman Victor Oppenheimer has collected a team-high 10 hits including three doubles and is hitting at a .270 clip. Classmate Dan O'Leary is 8-for-31 on the year (.258) with three doubles and five RBIs for the Judges. Junior Sean O'Neill has been the ace of the Brandeis pitching staff so far in 2017, compiling a 1-1 record in four starts with a 1.75 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 25.2 innings pitched. The Judges' staff as a whole has posted a 5.02 ERA in 84.1 innings of work.
Derek Carlson is in his second season as the Head Coach of the Judges, amassing a 20-26 overall record. He is assisted by Chris Travers, Kent Graham and Borja Jones-Berasaluce.
All-Time Series
The Eagles and Judges have played a total of 35 times since 1992 with Emory leading the all-time series 23-12. Emory has won 14 consecutive contests in the series including two wins in Sanford, FL by 7-4 and 9-3 margins last season.

The Eagles play their final regular season road game of the season next Tuesday, April 11th as the team travels crosstown to square off against the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Emory blasted Oglethorpe, 17-1, in the teams' first meeting of the year back on March 7th.
