Emory University seniors Jackson Weeg and Jeff Ronpirin were chosen as the University Athletic Association Baseball Athletes of the Week after helping the Eagles to a series sweep over Brandeis University this past weekend in Boston, MA.
Weeg pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout as Emory blanked the Judges 6-0 in the series opener. Weeg allowed just three hits, all singles, and did not walk a batter. He finished the outing with 11 strikeouts, his second consecutive double-digit strikeout performance and third of the season. The selection is Weeg's third of the year and seventh of his career.
Ronpirin earns his first career AOW after going 6-for-12 at the plate with four extra base hits to help carry the offense during the four-game sweep. Ronpirin collected two doubles, two triples and tied for the team lead with four runs batted in. He added a pair of walks and stole a base for the Eagles.
Emory is back in action Tuesday night with a non-conference matchup on the road against crosstown rival Oglethorpe University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
