Kyle Monk Earns Spot on CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Emory University Baseball senior Kyle Monk was named to the Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon on the organization's website.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Monk will now be placed on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America which will be announced on Wednesday, May 31st.

This marks the second consecutive year Monk has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. In addition, he earned a spot on the Academic All-America First team last season as a junior.

The Quantitative Social Science in Economics major carries a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average and has been one of the top pitchers for the Eagles during the 2017 season. In 21 appearances, Monk has compiled an 8-2 record with five saves to go along with a 4.47 earned run average and 57 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. Both his wins and strikeout totals represent new career highs for the Cortlandt Manor, NY native.

In his career, Monk has converted 34 save opportunities which places him fifth all-time in NCAA Division III history and holds Emory records in saves, most appearances (93), most games finished (75), most combined shutouts (6) and ranks 12th in both wins (19) and strikeouts (161) in Emory history.

Prior to this season, Monk garnered Preseason All-America recognition with classmate Jackson Weeg and was the recipient of the Thomas Aliberti and Scholar Athlete awards at the annual Emory Athletics awards banquet last month.

The Eagles, which finished the regular season on April 22nd with a 27-12 overall record, will find out what awaits them in the postseason when the NCAA tournament field is announced on Sunday, May 14th on NCAA.com.
