The Emory University Baseball team earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season in 2017, posting a winning record for the seventh consecutive year.

The Eagles finished the season with a 27-14 overall record and a 9-7 mark in University Athletic Association contests, marking the fourth season in a row the team has recorded 25 or more wins, and were receiving votes in the final edition of the D3Baseball.com National Top-25 rankings. Emory, as a team, ranked among the nation's leaders at year's end in several statistical categories including shutouts (6^th, 7), strikeouts-per-nine innings (7^th, 8.8), strikeout-to-walk ratio (15^th, 2.77), earned-run average (28^th, 3.49) and WHIP (39^th, 1.36).

Emory began the year on a torrid pace, opening the season with an 11-game winning streak and was 17-2 through the first 19 games, the third best start in program history. The 11-game winning streak marked the fourth-longest ever and propelled the Eagles to their first-ever No.-1 ranking in the D3Baseball.com National Top-25 poll on February 26^th. The Eagles remained at the top of the national rankings for the first half of the season until a mid-season slide from March 18^th through April 2^nd where the team went 2-9 in 11 contests, dropped the Eagles from the national rankings and moving the team to 19-11 overall on the year.

With just nine games remaining on the docket and needing a strong finish to earn a berth to the postseason, the Eagles went 8-1 in those contests against Brandeis, Oglethorpe and New York University and secured one of the two Pool "B" at-large into the NCAA Tournament.

Emory was sent to the South Regional, receiving the fourth seed in the Danville, Virginia bracket and was matched up against third-seeded Rowan University to open the tournament. Senior Brian Hernandez began the scoring with a RBI single in the top of the first but the Professors answered with runs in each of the first three innings off senior starter Jackson Weeg. The Eagles cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth inning as junior Bubby Terp collected a run-scoring single. Rowan, however, responded with seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to bounce Emory to the loser's bracket. Despite taking the loss in the game, Weeg reached a career milestone with the second out of the second inning, as his strikeout of Jason Clapper marked the 300^th of his career, becoming just the second Eagle ever to reach that milestone.

With the loss to Rowan, Emory faced off against Roanoke College in an elimination game the following day. The Eagles struck first as Hernandez homered to left center in the second inning to give Emory an early 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Billy Dimlow held the Maroons off the scoreboard for four innings before RC scraped across two in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The deficit was short-lived as senior Jeff Ronpirin plated junior Nick Chambers with a RBI groundout to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth. The game remained knotted at 2-2 until Roanoke plated the go-ahead run on an error by Chambers in the top of the eighth and added an insurance run in the ninth. The Eagles brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth as senior Wilson Morgan worked a leadoff walk but he was quickly erased as Ronpirin grounded into a double play. Hernandez extended the season as he singled to left center with two outs but RC's Eli Sumpter got Terp to fly out to center to end the ballgame and the Eagles' season.

Dimlow became just the fourth Eagle ever to be named a D3Baseball.com All-American, earning First Team honors after registered one of the top pitching seasonal performances in team history as a sophomore. In addition to his First Team All-America selection, Dimlow was chosen to the ABCA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com All-South Region First Teams as well as the UAA First Team and was named the D3Baseball.com South Region and UAA Pitcher of the Year. Dimlow was 6-2 with 83 strikeouts in 11 starts in his second season in Atlanta with his 1.09 ERA ranking fourth in Division III and was the second lowest single season mark in program history.

Joining Dimlow on the D3Baseball.com All-South Region was Ronpirin, who gained Third Team recognition. Ronpirin had a career-year, splitting time between second base and designated hitter. He played in a team-high 41 games, making 39 starts, and finished the year as the team leader in doubles (10), triples (4), RBI (42), multi-RBI games (12) while ranking second in hits (44), total bases (62) and stolen bases (10).

Dimlow and Ronpirin were two of four Eagles to be selected to the All-UAA First Team, joined by Hernandez and Terp. Hernandez was chosen to his second straight All-UAA First Team after leading the Eagles in batting average (.333) for the second consecutive year and added team-highs in hits (47), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.475) and multi-hit games (14). Terp was one of four Emory hitters to record at least 40 hits on the year, going 42-for-132 (.318) while adding eight doubles, a triple, two home runs and 31 runs batted in to his ledger.

In addition, Emory saw three players named to the All-UAA Second Team in Chambers, Morgan and senior Kyle Monk. Chambers put forth a career-best slash line of .317/.388/.404 while adding team-highs with 33 runs and 12 stolen bases to go along with eight doubles, one triple and 17 RBI. Morgan batted .331 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 21 RBI and a team-leading 30 walks. Monk posted a team-high eight wins, going 8-2 with five saves with a career-best 59 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

Freshman Richard Brereton rounded out the Emory All-UAA selections as he became just the sixth player in school history to be named the UAA Rookie of the Year after serving in a utility role for the Eagles in 2017, splitting time between the outfield, shortstop and at pitcher. In 19 games, Brereton batted at a .244 clip (11-for-45) with eight runs, three doubles, eight RBI and five stolen bases. He added a 4-1 record with one save in 14 appearances as a pitcher, striking out 23 batters in 32.2 innings.

Monk closed out the postseason awards for the Eagles as he became just the second player in program history to be named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America First Team twice in a career. He finished his outstanding four-year run as the Emory all-time statistical leader in saves (34), appearances (94), games finished (75) and combined shutouts (6), while ranking 11th in strikeouts (163) and tied for 12th in wins (19). His 34 saves place him fifth all-time in NCAA Division III history while his 92 relief appearances are tied for eighth most all-time.

The end of the season saw the end of a tremendous four-year stretch of the senior class featuring Hernandez, Monk, Morgan, Ronpirin, Weeg, Andrew Doestch, Luke Emmett, Philip Maldari and Chris Young. The nine-member class was the only class to qualify for the NCAA Tournament all four years and the first class ever to advance to the College World Series three times. The group was 130-54 during their four seasons with their .707 winning percentage ranking as the sixth-highest of all-time.
