Emory Baseball's Comeback Bid Spoiled by Marietta

Emory Baseball's Comeback Bid Spoiled by Marietta

The Emory University Baseball team's comeback bid was spoiled by Marietta College on Saturday evening in Mount Berry, GA as the Pioneers defeated the Eagles, 6-5, with a walkoff fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth.

The Eagles saw senior Bubby Terp and juniors Thomas Baumgartner and Jackson Grayson drive in runs to cut the Marietta lead to 5-4 in the top of the eighth. In the ninth inning, Emory tied the ballgame at five as sophomore Ryan Adelman came home as senior Nick Chambers grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.

The Pioneers had first and third with one out in the ninth with Damian Yenzi stepping to the plate. Yenzi hit a slow chopper to third, allowing Chris Petrucci to beat our sophomore Christopher Stern's throw to home plate to win the game.

Terp, junior Eric Terry and sophomore Richard Brereton all recorded two hits in the contest to pace the Emory offense. Chambers added a single and drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning.

The Eagles will try to put a halt to their current five-game losing skid tomorrow afternoon as Emory visits Berry College for the second time this season. First pitch from Mount Berry, GA is set for 3:30 PM.
