Berry College Doubles Up Emory Baseball, 6-3

The Emory University Baseball team was upended on the road by Berry College Sunday afternoon, falling to the Vikings by a score of 6-3 at William R. Bowdoin Field in Mount Berry, GA.

Berry jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a pair of three-run innings in both the third and fifth frames. Spence Johns earned the victory on the day to move to 3-0, allowing just three hits and one walk in six shutout innings.

Emory saw its first 12 hitters retired to start the game before a leadoff single by senior Bubby Terp in the fifth inning. The Eagles would load the bases in the inning on a walk by sophomore Christopher Stern and a single by sophomore Ryan Adelman but all three runners were left stranded.

The Eagles were held scoreless until the top of the eighth when the visitors plated three runs to cut the deficit in half. Terp had the big hit in the inning, driving home two runs with a single to right, scoring junior Jackson Grayson and freshman Michael Edelman. Stern added a RBI single to plate Terp to make it 6-3 in favor of the Vikings.

William Gibbons notched his second save of the season as he sent down the Eagles in order to close out the game. Sophomore Richard Brereton dropped to 1-3 on the mound as he allowed all six runs (4 ER) on seven hits in six innings pitched. He struck out four and walked two.

Emory returns to the diamond on March 13th as the Eagles will face these same Berry Vikings at Chappell Park. First pitch in Atlanta is set for 2:00 PM.
