Emory Baseball Wins Third Straight; Defeats Middlebury 10-2 Behind Seven-Run Seventh

The Emory University Baseball program used a seven-run seventh inning to break open a close contest against Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon at Chappell Park, defeating the Panthers 10-2 for its third straight victory.

For the second game in a row, the Eagles used a late-inning scoring barrage as the team sent 11 men to the plate in bottom of the seventh with seven coming around to score. Sophomore Jacob Greene began the scoring with a single to center to plate senior Nick Chambers before junior Thomas Baumgartner and freshman Jack Rubenstein had back-to-back two-run doubles to bust open the game. Emory rounded out the scoring in the frame with freshman Michael Edelman and junior NJ Kim scoring on wild pitches to provide the 10-2 final margin.

Sophomore Christopher Stern was 1-for-3 with three RBI, driving in the Eagles' first three runs on the afternoon. Stern led off the scoring in the first inning, bringing home Chambers with a ground out to third and later in the fifth inning, he singled just inside the third base bag to score Chambers and junior Jackson Grayson.

Chambers continued to stay hot at the plate, recording a game-high four hits in Emory's leadoff spot with a 4-for-5 effort while scoring a game-high three runs.

Sophomore James Robertson collected his first career win with 5.1 solid innings on the mound. He allowed two runs (1 ER) on five hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts. Junior Brian Taggett, freshman Henry Dimlow and senior Rhett Stuart pitched well in relief, combining for 4.2 shutout innings.

Emory and Middlebury finish up their two-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM. The start time was pushed back an hour from its originally scheduled time of 12:00 PM due to parts of the Publix Georgia Marathon happening in the morning in and around campus. *If you are planning on attending Sunday's contest, please see this link for more information regarding traffic and parking.*
