The Emory University Baseball program's offense stayed hot on Sunday as the Eagles scored 10 runs for the second consecutive game to defeat the Middlebury College Panthers, 10-7, for the team's fourth straight victory.
The Eagles did all of their damage over the first five innings with seven runs coming across the board in the first three frames. Senior Nick Chambers and freshman Jack Rubenstein carried the offense once again for Emory as the duo drove home six of the team's 10 runs. Chambers was 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI with Rubenstein checking in with a 2-for-3 effort and a pair of RBI. Through the Eagles' current four-game win streak, Chambers and Rubenstein have combined to hit .613 (19-for-31) while driving in 13 of the team's 30 runs.
Senior Mack Wilkins pitched four innings in relief of sophomore Michael Leeder to earn his first win of the season. Freshman Christian Bradley notch his second save of the campaign with 2.1 perfect innings to go along with one punch out.
Five of the first six Emory batters of the game reached base safely as the Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Junior Eric Terry singled to plate classmate NJ Kim for the game's first run before coming home to score on a Chambers double to left. Rubenstein doubled the Emory lead as he drove home Chambers and sophomore Richard Brereton with a single later in the inning.
The Eagles tacked on two runs in the second with a Terry sac fly and a Chambers ground out before adding another run in the third thanks to a sac fly off the bat of junior Thomas Baumgartner.
After Middlebury cut the lead to 7-3 in the top of the fifth, the Eagles responded with a three spot in the home half of the inning with a RBI single by junior Jackson Grayson and a two-run single by Chambers.
The Panthers rallied for four runs off Wilkins in the seventh to make it 10-7 but Bradley came on to get the final out of the inning, the first of seven straight he sent down to close out the game.
The Eagles continue their six-game home stand Tuesday when Birmingham-Southern visits Atlanta for an afternoon tilt. First pitch from Chappell Park is set for 3:00 PM.
