Emory Baseball Holds on for 12-10 Win over Covenant

The Emory University Baseball team withheld a late rally by the Covenant College Scots to hold on for the 12-10 victory Tuesday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

Sophomore Jacob Greene and senior Nick Chambers combined to drive in seven of the team's 12 runs on the afternoon. Greene was two-for-four with a triple, home run and four RBI while Chambers added two hits and three RBI.

Junior Sam Brzowski improved to 2-0 on the year with two scoreless innings in relief with sophomore James Robertson nailing down his first career save, recording the final out in the ninth.

Chambers broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning with a double to right center to plate junior Eric Terry. An inning later, Chambers tacked on another run for the Eagles with a suicide squeeze attempt before Greene cleared the bases with a triple down the left field line.

The Scots cut the Emory lead to three at 9-6 with four runs in the seventh before the Eagles answered right back with a three spot of their own in the home half of inning thanks to four defensive miscues by the visitors.

Covenant again plated four runs to shrink the Emory lead to two but Robertson was able to get Trenton Nobles to fly out to center to end the ball game.

The Eagles, winners of five of their last six, head to Cleveland, Ohio this weekend to begin the University Athletic Association portion of the schedule. Game one of the four game series with Case Western Reserve is set to start at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 30th.

Notes

The win marked the 550th of Head Coach Mike Twardoski's coaching career, giving him an overall record of 550-260-1.
