Emory Baseball Falls at Home to Pacific Lutheran, 9-5

The Emory University Baseball team could not erase an early deficit as they dropped a 9-5 decision to Pacific Lutheran University Friday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA.

The visiting Lutes jumped on the Eagles' starter Jack Moore early, scoring three times in the first and again in the second to open a 4-0 lead through two frames.

The score remained 4-0 until a solo home run by senior Bubby Terp in the fifth inning. PLU extended their lead with a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings before Emory cut the deficit to 8-4 with four straight hits in the bottom of the eighth. Terp collected another RBI with a double to drive home sophomore Caleb Shulman before seniors Thomas Baumgartner and Jackson Grayson picked up back-to-back run scoring pinch hit base knocks.

Pacific Lutheran tacked on another run in the top of ninth but the Eagles did not go quietly. With one out, Emory was able to load the bases with back-to-back singles by junior Richard Brereton, senior Eric Terry and another hit-by-pitch by sophomore Jack Rubenstein. Brereton scored the team's fifth run on a RBI groundout by Shulman but that was closest the Eagles would get as Terp fouled out to the catcher to end the ball game.

Terp paced the Emory offense with two hits, a home run and double, and two RBI. Moore dropped to 0-1 as he allowed four runs in three innings of work.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM against Whitworth University.
