Late Inning Rally Helps Baseball Upend #24 Berry, 5-3

The Emory University Baseball team used a four-run eighth inning to upend No.-24 ranked Berry College, 5-3, Tuesday night in Mount Berry, GA. The win helped the Eagles improve to 5-2 overall while the loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Vikings as they fell to 7-3.

Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the top of the eighth, Emory saw five consecutive batters reach base safely to take the lead. Sophomore Jack Rubenstein helped get the rally started as he worked a walk before senior Bubby Terp singled to left. Fellow senior Eric Terry followed with a single off the first base bag to score Rubenstein to cut the deficit to one.

Senior Jackson Grayson had the big hit in the inning, blooping a single to right to score two including the go-ahead run in classmate NJ Kim who pinch ran for Terp. Sophomore Michael Edelman capped off the four-run frame as he doubled over the right fielder's head, bringing home pinch runner Jacob Singer.

Berry did not go quietly, bringing the game-winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Freshman Jack Brodsky began the inning with a strike out but the Vikings were able to get the next two hitters on base with an infield hit to short followed by an error at the second base bag on a fielder's choice play. Brodksy, however, buckled down and retired the next two batters he faced on fly outs to earn his first career save.

Freshman Joey Bock picked up his first win of his career with 1.2 hitless innings with two strikeouts. Junior Ryan Adelman continued his hot stretch at the plate, collecting a game-high three hits in a 3-for-5 effort.

The Eagles return to Chappell Park this weekend with single games on both Saturday and Sunday against Roanoke College. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:00 PM.
