Oglethorpe Defeats Emory Baseball, 6-3, in Crosstown Matchup

The Emory University Baseball team dropped a crosstown matchup to Oglethorpe University Wednesday night, falling to the Stormy Petrels, 6-3, at Anderson Field in Brookhaven, GA.

Junior Ryan Adelman and freshman Zeke Diamond combined for six of the team's seven hits in the contest. Adelman collected his first career four-hit game as he reached base in all five plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with two RBI, a double, a stolen base and a walk. Diamond posted two hits as he finished 2-for-5 with a RBI, stolen base and two runs scored.

Adelman tied the ball game in the top of the fifth with a run scoring single to plate Diamond. Oglethorpe, however, answered with four runs in the home half of the frame with Alex Babb and Sebastian Lopez each collecting two-run singles.

Diamond and Adelman had back-to-back RBI hits in the sixth to cut the deficit to two but that was as close as the Eagles would come as OU held the visitors scoreless through the final three innings. Emory did bring the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth following a single by Adelman and a walk by senior Bubby Terp with two outs but Oglethorpe's Jack Bartlewski retired sophomore Drew Bartholow on strikes to end the game.

Emory continues its three-game road trip next Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with matchups against Birmingham-Southern and LaGrange.
