Baseball Falls to #23 Birmingham-Southern, 8-4

The Emory University Baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to No.-23 ranked Birmingham-Southern College, 8-4, Tuesday night in Birmingham, AL.

Sophomore Jack Rubenstein drove in two of the team's four runs in the defeat, going 1-for-3 and clubbed his first career home run. Senior Eric Terry added a RBI for the Eagles as he went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk.

Terry began the scoring with a single to right to plate senior Bubby Terp in the second inning. The Panthers answered in the bottom half of the frame, scoring four times off start Jack Moore including a two-run single by Luke DePiero.

BSC held the lead from the second inning on but the Eagles threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases and bringing the tying run to the plate. Rubenstein helped cut the deficit to four as he brought home junior Ryan Adelman with his seventh hit-by-pitch of the season (22nd overall, 6th most all-time) with two outs in the frame. BSC's Robbie Lively though was able to force the next batter, senior Thomas Baumgartner, to ground into a fielder's choice with the third baseman stepping on third for the final out.

Emory, now 6-5 on the season, travels to LaGrange College for more mid-week action tomorrow night. First pitch from LaGrange, GA is set for 7:00 PM EST.
