Middlebury Takes Saturday Twinbill from Emory Baseball

Middlebury College swept a doubleheader from the Emory University Baseball team on Saturday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA.

With the two wins, the Panthers improved to 3-1 on the year while the Eagles have now dropped six in a row to fall to 6-8. The two programs will conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 2:00 PM. If you are planning on attending the game, please arrive close to game time as access to campus may be limited due to the Publix City marathon occurring in the morning.

Game 1 – Middlebury 10, Emory 5

Panthers starter Colby Morris held the Eagles to three runs on four hits through seven innings of work as Middlebury opened the series with a five-run victory.

Middlebury struck early, scoring three runs off junior Michael Leeder in the first two innings, a lead they held for the entirety of the contest.

Junior Richard Brereton collected two RBI groundouts in the game and senior Jackson Grayson continued his hot streak, recording two hits and a RBI. Sophomore Drew Bartolow registered a pinch-hit two-run triple in the eighth to help score Emory's fourth and fifth runs of the game.

Sophomore Jack Rubenstein was 1-for-3 with a run scored and had another hit-by-pitch, his 24th career HBP moving into a tie for fourth place on the all-time list. He was also one of four Eagles to steal a base in the game one of the double dip.

Game 2 – Middlebury 16, Emory 5

The Panthers did all of their damage in four innings in the night cap, scoring all 16 of their runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh frames.

Emory began the scoring in the first as junior Ryan Adelman had a two-run single to bring home Grayson and senior Eric Terry. Junior Jacob Greene tacked on a run in the third with a towering blast to left center.

Middlebury answered with seven unanswered runs before Emory broke the stretch with a sac fly by senior Michael Wilson in the fifth. The Eagles added another run in the eighth as freshman Danny Terp doubled home senior NJ Kim in his first career plate appearance.

Grayson went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the game, bringing his season average to .500. He has now had at least one hit in four straight and eight of nine.
