Berry Tops Emory Baseball in Mid-Week Game

The Emory University Baseball team fell to in-state foe Berry College by a score of 12-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Berry improves to 15-6 with the win while the Eagles dropped to 7-9.

The visiting Vikings scored in their first five innings at the plate, scoring three runs in the first, second and fourth innings and plated single runs in the third and fifth. Four different Berry hitters drove in at least two runs while leadoff man Zach Walch went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a game-high four runs.

Starter Spence Johns pitched five innings, allowing four runs (3 ER) on six hits and struck out six to earn the win. Luke Crawford gave up just one hit and two walks in four scoreless innings. He added four strikeouts as he picked up his first save of the year.

For the Eagles, senior Jackson Grayson went 2-for-2 and drove in a run while sophomores Zack Atlas and Jake Kessinger collected their first career hits in the defeat. Atlas was 1-for-2 including a two-run triple in the fifth.

Emory returns to the field next Wednesday, March 27th with a matchup against 19th-ranked Piedmont College. First pitch from Chappell Park in set for 3:00 PM.
