The Emory University Baseball team totaled 29 runs across both games of the Saturday doubleheader as the Eagles defeated Brandeis University 13-8 and 16-6 to improve to 3-0 in conference play and move atop of the UAA standings.
Game 1 – Emory 13, Brandeis 8
An eight-run second inning proved to be difference as the Eagles held on to take the first game of the afternoon by a five-run margin. Emory sent 12 batters to the plate in the second frame with eight coming around to score as the Eagles erased a 2-0 early hole to take the lead for good.
Junior Richard Brereton, sophomore Jacob Singer and freshman Zeke Diamond each recorded three-hit games as the trio combined for nine of the team's 18 hits. Singer drove in a career-high three runs in a 3-for-4 effort while both Brereton and Diamond went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs.
Sophomore Drew Bartholow added two RBI in a 2-for-3 performance with junior Ryan Adelman chipping in with two hits, two walks, one RBI and a game-high three runs scored.
Junior James Robertson went seven innings to pick up his first win of the season, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out six.
The Judges did not go quietly after trailing 13-4 through the first seven innings, scoring twice in the eighth and plating two more in the ninth. Brandeis brought the tying run to the on-deck circle in the final inning but freshman reliever Joey Bock was called on to record the final out as he earned his first career save.
Game 2 – Emory 16, Brandeis 6 (8 Innings)
For the second time in three games, the Eagles were victors via the 10-run rule, taking game three of the weekend series 16-6.
Sophomore Jack Rubenstein had a game-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI, two stolen bases and was one of four Eagles to cross home plate three different times. Brereton recorded his third straight three-hit game while driving in a game-high three runs.
Senior Bubby Terp and junior David Shore each added two RBI for the Eagles whereas the top two hitters in the order, Diamond and Adelman, combined for seven walks. In addition to his three free passes, Diamond stole a career-high three bases.
Sophomore Henry Dimlow pitched 3.1 in relief, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks as he garnered his first career victory. He struck out two in the outing.
With Emory in front 11-6, the Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth with three straight run-scoring hits by Brereton and pinch-hitters Christopher Stern and Michael Edelman clinching the contest.
The Eagles and Judges will conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch of the finale scheduled for 12:00 PM at Chappell Park in Atlanta.
