The Emory bats stayed red hot on Sunday as the Eagles belted out 17 runs on 16 hits, including 15 unanswered, to complete the sweep of the visiting Brandeis University Judges.
With the 17-7 verdict in seven innings in the finale, the Eagles outscored the Judges 57-22 in the four-game series and stand alone on top of the UAA standings at 4-0. The 57 runs over a four-game stretch is the most by an Emory team since the 2003 squad tallied 57 runs in four straight wins over Huntingdon, Taylor (Ind.) and Edgewood.
Nine different Eagles plated runs in the win with freshman Zeke Diamond driving in a career-high four runs in a 2-for-5 effort. Senior Eric Terry had three RBI with all three coming home in a towering home run in the seventh inning. Sophomore Jack Rubenstein recorded his second straight four-hit outing, finishing 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.
Junior Ryan Adelman added three hits for the Eagles, going 3-for-5 with a double, RBI, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases while senior Michael Wilson drove in a pair in a 2-for-4 day.
Freshman Joey Bock recorded his second win of the year, tossing 2.2 hitless frames in relief and stranding all three free passes he issued.
The fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Eagles as the team scored eight runs to erase a 7-2 hole en route to the win. Five of the eight runs came from the sticks of Diamond and Wilson with the big blow being a bases-clearing double by Diamond. It was the second time this weekend the Eagles struck for eight runs in a single frame.
RBIs by senior Jackson Grayson, sophomore Michael Edelman and Diamond in the sixth brought the lead to six before Terry and sophomore Drew Bartholow pushed across the last four runs needed in the seventh to clinch the third 10-run rule enforced in the four-game series sweep.
The Eagles will look to keep the momentum moving on Tuesday as Emory concludes the 10-game homestand with a non-conference matchup against Birmingham-Southern. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM from Chappell Park in Atlanta.
