Baseball Scores 17 in Rout at Oglethorpe

Juniors Richard Brereton and Jacob Greene combined to drive in 10 runs as the Emory University baseball team clinched the season series win over Oglethorpe University Tuesday night, defeating the Stormy Petrels, 17-7, in Brookhaven.

Brereton became the first player in over six years to drive in six runs in a single game, finishing Tuesday's contest 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and a career-high six RBI. He now has four straight multi-hit games and has collected at least one RBI in the last four games, totaling 12 in the four game stretch.

Greene celebrated his birthday with his team-leading fifth home run, end the game with four RBI in a 1-for-5 effort. He made his collegiate pitching debut as well, tossing a scoreless seventh inning with one walk and one strikeout.

Sophomore Michael Edelman tacked on a game-high four hits, his second career four-hit effort, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and was one of three Eagles to score at least three runs. Junior Ryan Adelman was 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, three runs scored and a walk while freshman Zeke Diamond stuffed the stat sheet again, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one RBI, a walk and a stolen base.

Freshman Bryant Wise earned the start for the Eagles, allowing two earned runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three. Freshman Ethan Shear picked up his first career, tossing 1.1 innings in relief of Wise, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

In addition to Greene, junior Michael Leeder and sophomore Peter Freck posted scoreless relief outings, combing for two punch outs in 2.1 innings.

The Eagles return to the diamond this weekend with a pivotal UAA series at No.-16 ranked Washington University. Game one of the series is scheduled for 4:00 PM EST on Friday, April 19th.
