Terp Homers as Baseball Drops Series Finale at WashU

Washington University completed the four-sweep of the Emory University baseball team on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Eagles 5-3 in the series finale in St. Louis, MO.

Senior Bubby Terp went 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks with his big fly accounting for one of the team's five hits in the contest. Sophomore Jack Rubenstein added a 1-for-4 effort with a RBI.

The Eagles scored first, plating a run in the top of the first on a WashU defensive error but saw the Bears regain the lead with two in the bottom of the inning. Rubenstein tied the game at two with a run-scoring single in the third, plating junior Richard Brereton from third with an infield hit to third.

Freshman Bryant Wise settled down after allowing two in the opening inning to toss four scoreless to finish his outing. For the day, Wise gave up two runs (1 ER) on four hits and three walks in five frames. He struck out four as he was saddled with the no decision.

WashU broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth, scoring twice off freshman Joey Bock with two RBI doubles by Sean Robinson and Caleb Durbin. Terp brought the Eagles to within one in the eighth with his third home run of the season but that run was quickly erased in the home half of the inning as the Bears plated a run on a sac fly to provide the 5-3 final margin.

Emory, now 19-16 overall and 7-5 in UAA, wraps the regular season next weekend with a four-game series at New York University.
