Brereton & Brodsky Collect UAA Weekly Baseball Honors

Emory University senior Richard Brereton and sophomore Jack Brodsky were honored by the University Athletic Association Monday afternoon by being named the league's hitter and pitcher of the week. It is the fifth weekly honor in Brereton's career while this marks the third for Brodsky.

Brereton was a focal point in Emory's 1-1 opening weekend against Virginia Wesleyan and No. 4 ranked Birmingham-Southern. Brereton totaled a team-high four hits, batting .571 across the two games and leading the Eagles with three RBI and three stolen bases. The Darien, CT native was also solid in his season debut on the mound Friday afternoon, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings as he recorded his first win of the year. Brereton struck out five, walked three and scattered three hits and two hit-by-pitches.

Brodsky was equally superb on the bump this weekend, tossing five scoreless innings against the Panthers in his second-ever collegiate start. Brodsky struck out five BSC hitters while holding the Panthers to three singles, three walks and two HBPs in the no-decision.

The Eagles return to the diamond this weekend with three games in three days at the Huntingdon early season tournament. Emory will oppose Millsaps College to begin the weekend at 2:00 PM EST on Friday.
