Emory Baseball Win Streak Halted by Berry College

A three-run ninth inning proved to be the difference Monday afternoon as Berry College evened the season series with the Emory University baseball team following a 6-3 victory at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA.

With the defeat, the Eagles see their four-game winning streak snapped to fall to 11-3 while Berry halts its two-game skid to improve to 10-5.

Emory opened the scoring with back-to-back RBI singles from juniors Michael Edelman and Caleb Shulman in the third. The score remained 2-0 until the sixth as sophomore Joey Bock went five scoreless in the start before running into trouble in the sixth. He settled for the no decision as he allowed two runs (1 ER) on seven hits in six innings of work.

The Eagles squandered an opportunity in the seventh after loading the bases. With the bases loaded, senior Ryan Adelman popped up in foul territory, leading Tyler Calvert to make an over the shoulder catch. Junior Drew Bartholow broke for the plate trying to score the go-ahead run but was gunned down on a nice throw and tag combination by Calvert and pitcher Milan Sutaria.

The teams traded runs in the eighth as Calvert delivered a run-scoring double before senior Jacob Greene countered with a sac fly to center.

Knotted at three in the top of the ninth, the Vikings were able to take the lead on a deep double to right by Evan Romeo off freshman Aaron Mishoulam which scored John D'Amelio with the go ahead run. Romeo scored the team's second run of the frame as Dalton Smith singled to right. Berry tacked on one more as insurance, plating an unearned run that to an error in the field. With a three-run cushion, Mason Carnes came in and sent down the Eagles in order to end the ballgame.

Junior Jack Rubenstein claimed three of the team's six hits, posting a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Classmate Jacob Singer added a hit, going 1-for-4 with a double.

Emory now has a quick turnaround as the team heads to LaGrange College for a matchup Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
