The No. 9-ranked Emory men's golf team has completed its first round of play at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships. The 72-hole event is being held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.
Competing on the 6,636-yard, par-72 Links Course, Emory posted a team score of 303. Junior Johnathan Chen and sophomore Alex Wunderlich paced the squad's effort with both players carding a three-over par 75. Chen shook off a slow start that saw him at five-over par after the first 10 holes before going two under over the remainder of the course including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole. Wunderlich also had to battle through an early obstacle that saw him stand at five-over par through six holes before regrouping to birdie four of the next seven holes. Juniors Alec Berens and Will Roth rounded out the Eagles' scorers for the days with marks of a 76 and 77, respectively. Senior David Collura also competed and shot an 87.
