Emory Golf To Compete At Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

Emory Golf To Compete At Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

Fresh off its first-place performance at the University Athletic Association Championships, the Emory University golf team continues its spring season this weekend (Mar. 17-19) when it competes at the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.  The 54-hole event will be played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course and serving as the host institution will be Oglethorpe University.

Emory, ranked No. 5 in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will be one of 30 teams in this year's talent-stacked field. Six of the top-10 and a total of 14 of the top-25 ranked programs will take part. In addition to Emory, other top-10 squads include No. 1 Huntingdon, No. 3 Rhodes, No. 7 Oglethorpe, No. 9 LaGrange and No. 10 Methodist.

LaGrange enters this year's event as defending champion.  Emory tied with Berry and Christopher Newport for fifth place out of 30 teams last year.

With match play being implemented for the second straight year, Emory defended its title, its fifth UAA title over the past seven years, defeating New York University, 5-0, in the semifinals and Carnegie Mellon, 3-2, in the championship match. Sophomore Connor Yakubov and freshman Matt Organisak represented Emory on the all-tournament team, while John Sjoberg was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year.
