Emory Golf Stands First After Two Rounds At Rhodes Fall Classic

The No. 7-ranked Emory University golf team opened its 2017-18 on Sunday, playing 36 holes at the Rhodes College Fall Classic. The 54-hole event is being played on the 7.125-yard, par 72 Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Mississippi.

The Eagles find themselves in the No. 1 spot out of the 19 competing squads, finishing with a solid eight-under score of 568.  Emory shot a five-under 283 during its opening 18 holes of play before posting a 285 over the second round.  The team's total after the first 18 holes represented the program's seventh-best mark in school history for a round.  Emory has a six-shot cushion over Southwestern (287-287—574) while UT-Tyler is 11 shots off the pace at 579 (292-287).  Rhodes College stands fourth at 582.

Sophomore Matt Organisak led the Emory contingent on Sunday, firing a brilliant six-under par 138, which included a five-under 67 during the second round, representing a personal best while tying the program's fourth-best individual round in school history. Organisak will head into Monday's final round tied for second in the 99-player field.  Senior Keenan Hickton was the next Eagle to appear on the leader board at two-under 142 (69-73), good for 10th place overall.  Freshman Eric Yiu turned in a solid day in his first action as a collegian, carding a one-over par 145 (74-71), tying for 18th in the field. Junior Connor Yakubov (147, 73-74) and senior Sean Murphy (148, 70-78) rounded out the team's scorers.

Will Hocker of Webster University ranks as the individual leader after shooting a blistering eight-under par 136.

The final round will be played on Monday.
