The No. 3-ranked Emory golf team stands in 12th place after the opening round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational. The 54-hole competition is being held on the 6,568-yard, par-71 Raven Course at the Sandestin (FL) Beach and Resort Club.
The Eagles compiled a team score of 10-over par 294. No. 7 Concordia (TX) left the course after Sunday's action in the top spot after shooting a four-under par 280. St. Thomas of Minnesota is second at even-par 284 while Guilford College holds down the No. 3 position at tow-over par 286.
Senior Keenan Hickton led the Emory pack with one-under 70, his second-best round of the fall and tying for 10th place among the 89 competitors. Junior Connor Yakubov was the next Eagle on the leader board at one-over par 72, good for a 22nd-place tie, while junior Stefano Butti finds himself tied for 52nd after carding a 75. Sophomore Sam Galloway rounded out the team's scorers with a 77 while Matt Organisak shot an 83.
Connor O'Neil of Illinois Wesleyan and Pete Sienko of St. Thomas are tied for first place after each player registered four-under 67s.
Emory will begin second-round play on Monday morning starting at 7:30 am.
