The No. 4-ranked Emory University golf team turned in an outstanding performance on a rain-shortened opening day at the NCAA Division III Championships and is tied for first place out of 42 teams.  Emory played first 18 holes on the 6,780-yard, par-72 West Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Eagles of head coach John Sjoberg beat the storms that hit the area and fired a team score of 283, tying them with host Guilford College. Emory's performance established a school record for the best round at the NCAA Championships, bettering the previous standard of 289 set by the 2011 squad which took place on the same course.

All four of the players who figured in the team's scoring shot par or better including sophomore Matt Organisak whose three-under par 69 paced the squad while setting a school individual record for the best round at the Championships. Organisak recorded six birdies on the day.  Junior Connor Yakubov and freshman Eric Yiu each came through with one-under par 71 while junior Stefano Butti carded and even-par 72.  Yakubov registered four birdies on Monday including three of the last four holes on the front nine Yiu also finished with four birdies.  Butti, who started out the day with an even-par 36 on the back nine, finished with three birdies, three bogeys and three pars on the front.  Also competing was senior Keenan Hickton who closed out the day at 81.

Play on Monday was suspended around 4:25 pm, and is scheduled to resume on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am, with the second round slated to begin at 11:00 am. New pairings will be determined as the field will be grouped into foursomes. The pairings will be listed on Golfstat.com.

Emory will play Tuesday's second round on the 7,150-yard, par-72 East Course.  After that round is concluded, the field will be cut to 18 teams for the final 36 holes.
