The No. 2-ranked Emory University golf team turned in a memorable start to its 2018-19 season on Monday at the NCAA D-III Preview.  The 54-hole tourney is being held on the 7,190-yard, par-72 Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Eagles have a firm grip on the top spot in the 18-team field after logging two rounds on the first day of action.  After shooting a 12-over 300 over the opening 18 holes, Emory roared back on its second crack on the course, shooting a blistering 11-under par 277, giving it a score of 577.  Tied for second are Wittenberg and Carnegie Mellon University, both of who are 16 strokes off the pace at 593.  Huntingdon College stands fourth at 594. The team's 277 represented the program's second-ever best score for 18 holes.

Emory junior Matt Organisak and senior Connor Yakubov paced squad's effort with both players tied for third place in the 90-player field at one under par 143.  Organisak carded rounds of 72 and 71 while Yakubov, after shooting a 76 on his first 18 holes, bounced back in fine fashion to fire a five-under 67, tying his career best performance.  Included in his second round were seven birdies and an eagle.  Sophomore Eric Yiu holds down the seventh spot on the leader board at 145 (75-7) while junior Sam Galloway is 11th at 146 (77-69).  Also competing for Emory is freshman Logan Ryan who posts a score of 155 (79-76) after 36 holes.

Shane Hoben of Ohio Wesleyan sits atop the leader board with a score of 140 (74-66).

Action at the D-III Preview concludes on Tuesday.
