The No. 2-ranked Emory University golf team closed out its opening tournament of the 2018-19 season on a successful note, capturing first place at the D-III Preview.  The 54-hole event was held on 7,190-yard, par-72 Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Holding a 16-shot cushion heading into Tuesday's final day of action, the Eagles posted a team score of one-over par 289 to finish at 866 (300-277-289), 24 shots better than runner-up and No. 11-ranked Wittenberg University (311-282-297—890).  No. 5 Washington and Lee and No. 7 Illinois Wesleyan deadlocked for third place at 892 while No. 3 Huntingdon College rounded out the top five with a mark of 893.  Emory's final score of 866 tied the program's second-best effort for a 54-hole tournament.

Junior Matt Organisak shot an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes and finished runner-up in the 90-player field with a one-under par 215 (72-71-72), tying the school's individual ninth-best mark for a three-round competition.  Sophomore Eric Yiu paced the Eagles in the final round, shooting a one-under 71 to close out in a tie for third place with senior teammate Connor Yakubov at even par 216. Freshman Logan Ryan rounded out Emory's final-round scorers, shooting a 73 that left him at 228 (79-76-73), good for a 35th-place tie on the leader board.  Junior Sam Galloway tied for 28th overall with a showing of 227 (77-69-81).

Brian Peccie of Washington and Lee took home medalist honors with a five-under score of 211 (74-67-70).

The trio of Organisak, Yakubov and Yiu all played their ways to spots on the D-III Preview All-Tournament Team.

Emory returns to action, October 1-2, when it competes at the 54-hole Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
