Emory Unanimous No. 1 In Bushnell Golfweek D-III Coaches Poll

Bushnell Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll

An excellent fall season that has seen team and individual records established has helped the Emory golf team to a unanimous No. 1 ranking in this week's Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll.

Emory received all 18 first-place votes and totaled 450 points.  Huntingdon is second with 414 points and Illinois Wesleyan third with 396 points.

The Eagles of Head Coach John Sjoberg have been dominant during the initial portion of their schedule, with the first side finishing or tied for first in three events while turning in a runner-up effort in tournament.

Emory took home the top spot out of 18 teams at the NCAA Fall Preview (Sept. 17-18), finishing 24 shots ahead of runner-up Wittenberg.  Following the Preview, Emory came in second out of 13 schools at the Gordin Classic (Oct. 1-2), six shots shy of Illinois Wesleyan.  The team then ventured to the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, where it tied Wittenberg for first place in a 12-team field, before coming up short in a playoff.  Junior Matt Organisak captured medalist honors at the Tartan Invitational with a three-under score of 213.  In their most recent outing, the Eagles emerged as the No. 1 finisher out of 18 teams at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational in Sandestin, Florida, rolling to a nine-shot margin of victory over Huntingdon with a school-record 54-hole score of 844.

Organisak stands as the team leader in scoring average with a mark of 70.8 strokes over 12 rounds of play. Organisak has shot par or better in nine rounds with his best outing a 67 during the second round of the Tartan Invitational.  Freshman Logan Ryan posts an average of 71.9 strokes over 12 rounds and claims six rounds of par or better.

The Emory program closes out the fall on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 22-23) when it sends a contingent of players to the Chick-fil-A Collegiate at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia.
