Emory Golf To Host Discover DeKalb Spring Invitational

The Emory golf team returns to action this Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 20-21) when it hosts the Discover DeKalb Spring Invitational.  The 54-hole tourney will be held at the 6,535-yard, par-71 Smoke Rise Country Club in nearby Stone Mountain.  36 holes will be played on Saturday with the final 18 taking place on Sunday.

Emory, ranked 1st nationally in the most recent Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will be one of 14 schools that will be competing in this year's event.  A total of eight competing squads are ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 Poll, including No. 2 Huntingdon College and No. 7 Guilford College. Other ranked programs include No. 15 LaGrange College, No. 17 St. Johns (#17), #19 Greensboro College, No. 20 Oglethorpe University and No. 25 UW-Eau Claire.

Emory is the defending champion, having finished six shots ahead of runner-up Huntingdon in last year's event.

In Emory's most recent outing, it posted a second-place finish out of 15 teams at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate, Apr. 1-2, held at the Wynlakes Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.  Junior Matt Organisak was named the University Athletic Association Golfer of the Week after tying for the team's top score, while tying for second place out of 83 players, with a one-under par 143 (72-71).
