Five members of the No. 1-ranked Emory University golf squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team. The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches. The Eagles saw four members of the program earn first-team status while one garnered second-team acclaim.
Junior Matt Organisak (Sudbury, MA) highlighted the Emory representatives with his third straight nod to the first team as well as being chosen as the league's Co-Player of the Year, sharing the honor with Jason Li of Carnegie Mellon University.
Organisak has played in all of Emory's tournaments this year, averaging a team-best 72.0 strokes over 22 rounds, with that mark currently ranking first on the Eagles' all-time seasonal chart.
He has ranked as the team's top performer on three occasions while recording a team-high 13 rounds of par or better.
His best 18-hole effort of the season was a second-round, five-under par 67 (tying the program's fifth-best individual round in school history) at the 2018 CMU Tartan Invitational, where he claimed medalist honors in the 60-player field with 54-hole score of three-under par 213 (ties fourth-best score in school annals). Named the UAA Golfer of the Week on three occasions, Organisak has compiled four top-five finishes this season, including a runner-up performance out of 90 competitors at the 2018 NCAA Preview with a three-round showing of one-under 215. At the Wynlakes Intercollegiate earlier this spring, he tied for second on the leader board in an 82-player field after carding a one-under 143. This year represents the third straight campaign that Organisak has garnered UAA Player of the Year accolades.
Freshman Logan Ryan (Fort Wayne, IN) brought home first-team recognition and was selected as the league's Rookie of the Year. Ryan has logged an average of 72.9 strokes over 22 rounds, good for the No. 2 spot on the squad. The team's top performer in three tournaments, he has registered eight rounds of par or better while coming up with four top-five finishes. A two-time UAA Golfer of the Week, Ryan placed fourth out of 90 competitors at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational with a 54-hole mark of five-under par 208, the school's second-best score ever for a three-round event. Earlier in the fall, he finished runner-up in a 70-player field at the Gordin Classic after firing a six-under 210. During the spring portion of the schedule, he helped the Eagles to a first-place finish at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, pacing the team and placing fourth out of 150 players with a 54-hole total of five-under 211, the program's all-time top score at that tournament. Ryan is the fifth Emory player to win the conference's Rookie of the Year award since it was instituted in 2012.
Senior Connor Yakubov (Columbus, OH) scored his fourth career all-UAA award and second nod to the first team. Yakubov has averaged 73.5 strokes over 22 rounds of play and has turned in nine rounds of par or better, third most on the team. He has a pair of top-10 finishes and one top-five outing to his credit this year, and has carded a pair of career-low rounds of 67. He was part of a strong Eagle contingent that finished first at the NCAA Preview, ranking second on the team while tying for third out of 90 players with a three-round score of even-par 216. At the Jekyll Island Collegiate, he posted a 54-hole performance of four-under 212, placing second on the team and sixth overall out of 150 players. In addition, his final score at Jekyll Island represented the program's second-best all-time mark at the prestigious tourney.
Sophomore Eric Yiu (Shenzhen, Guandong, China) garnered first-team status with his 73.0 stroke average over 22 rounds slotting him third on the team. Yiu's 11 rounds of par or better is second best on the club, with his top 18-hole performance a program-record tying 66 that took place during the opening round at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational. He has either led or tied as the Eagles' No. 1 performer on three occasions this year, most recently at the Emory Discover DeKalb Invitational when his three-over par 216 put him sixth overall in the 82-player field. Named the league's Golfer of the Week twice this year, he has finished among the top-five overall finishers in two tournaments including the Wynlakes Intercollegiate when he tied teammate Matt Organisak for second place out of 82 competitors with a 36-hole score of one-under par 143.
Junior Sam Galloway (Neenah, WI) earned his initial all-conference award with a spot on the second team. He has played in all eight tournaments and is averaging 74.7 strokes over 22 rounds. He has chalked up two rounds of par or better including a season-best effort of three-under par 69 at the NCAA Preview. He tied for the team lead and was 13th on the leader board in a 90-player field at the Savannah Harbor Classic with a 36-hole score of 148.
