The Emory University men's golf team came through with a solid effort on Friday and is second after the opening round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole tournament is being played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.
The No. 2-ranked Eagles carded a team score of 285, just one shot behind No. 8 Guilford College in the 23-team field. The No. 7 Lions of Piedmont College find themselves in the No. 3 slot after posting a 287 while No. 5 Methodist is fourth after registering a 290.
Freshman Logan Lowery highlighted the Emory contingent, firing a four-under par 68 that is good for second place on the 133-player leader board. The O'Fallon, Ill., native was a model of consistency, totaling five birdies with just one bogey. Junior Max Schwarz notched a two-under par 70, tying fifth among all competitors. Senior Davis Hingtgen and sophomore Grant Drogosch rounded out the scoring efforts with a 73 and 74, respectively. Junior Logan Ryan checked in with a 76.
William Knauth of Carnegie Mellon shot the top round of the day with a six-under 66.
The second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate will take place on Saturday.
