Christopher Avant

Christopher Avant

Junior Christopher Avant helped the Emory men's basketball team to a pair of wins in its opening three games of the year.

The 6-foot-8 Avant ranked third on the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and pulled down a team-high 9.0 boards per contest over the three games.  In addition, he shot 63.6 percent (14 of 22) from the floor, including 60 percent (3 of 5 ) from beyond the arc and converted six of his eight free throw opportunities.

After ranking second on the team with six boards in the Covenant contest, Avant topped the club with a career-high 22 points, connecting on 10-of-15 field goals, and nine boards in a 100-80 decision over William Peace in the Guilford Invitational opener.  He followed that performance with his first career double-double, picking up 11 points and a career-best 12 boards in a thrilling 69-66 double-overtime triumph over Guilford.  Trailing by a 57-55 count in the first overtime session, Avant battled for an offensive rebound off a missed three-point attempt and hit a bucket with one second left that knotted the score and forced the second overtime.  Late in regulation, with Emory trailing, 51-50, Avant snatched another offensive carom off a miss and was fouled with one second on the clock.  After missing his first attempt, he converted the second which forced extra time.

Avant's effort at the Guilford Invitational enabled him to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
