Lawrence Rowley Named UAA Men's Basketball Athlete Of The Week

Emory University sophomore Lawrence Rowley (Ypsilanti, MI) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his efforts in victories at Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon.  It is the first time in his career that he has received the honor.

The 6-foot-5 Rowley led the squad in both scoring (18.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.0 rpg) over the two games.  In addition, he shot 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the field, helping Emory close out the week with an overall slate of 19-5, while maintaing a share of first-place in the conference with a mark of 10-3.

In an 83-71 verdict over Case Western, Rowley came through with his fifth double-double of the year, a game-high tying 17-point and game-best 15 rebound effort. He was successful on seven-of-nine field goal attempts, and his 15 rebounds tied the high-water mark by an Emory player this season. He also blocked five CWRU shot attempts, a career high and tying for 14th place on the program's single-game chart. He followed that outing by ranking second on the team with 19 points and nine rebounds in an 89-74 outcome over Carnegie Mellon. Rowley converted six of his 10 field goal tries and went seven-of-nine from the charity stripe in posting his 21st double-figure scoring contest of the year.

Through games played Feb. 17, Rowley stands third on the team and ninth in the UAA in scoring average with a 14.3 per-game effort. He tops the club with an average of 8.2 rebounds per game, good for the No. 3 position on the league ladder.

Emory, returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 23) when it hosts league co-leader Rochester in a 4:00 pm start.
